Glogster is an online web site in which students can create digital poster boards. This is an engaging and interactive tool that students can use to present material to the class in a unique manner. As opposed to a standard piece of poster board, with glogster, students can add video clips, sound, and stimulating backgrounds. They can alter text and photos in an appealing manner as well.
For students who have learning disabilities, project planning can be difficult. Giving these students the opportunity to use glogster can make the task of putting together a presentation seem exciting and not terrifying. The features that glogster has allows students to add what plain poster boards usually have (text, graphics), except in an easier manner. With templates, everything is already set into place and the students can select what they want to add to each section of the poster. Manipulating the poster is a much simpler task too than it would be to rearrange things on a standard poster board.
The most basic single license of glogster is free to any users, but the ability to use it's management features and special features are grouped into different packages available to educators at a cost (the upgrade is highly recommended as the single free license does not have much to it). There is a 50, 200, and unlimited student package, starting out at $29.95/year and increasing to, $99/year, and then 2$ per student per year. With the additional features, teachers can create a class account in which students can post, share, and create portfolios. Also with the upgraded versions, students can use the drawing tool, the image galleries for photos and backgrounds, project templates, and more multimedia features. In the poster shown above that user Tehescmarts has uploaded to the public, there are descriptions of the parts of the brain going down the middle. They have added video links to show various things such as a sheep brain dissection, a discussion about brain mysteries, and animated videos talking about the brain parts. At the top, the user has also added a song about the brain. To explore glogster, click here.
