is a free text-to-speech program that works both off the internet and online, with
Word documents, webpages, PDF files, Outlook, and Excel. It will take
any text and read it out loud in one of many natural-sounding voices.
The voice and speed of the reader can be adjusted and text can be
converted into mp3 audio files to save. There are two viewing options
for the NaturalReader program. The Main Window view has a large window
with easy-to-follow navigations and a big area where copied text can be
pasted and read aloud. With the click of a button, users can change to
the Floating Bar view, which is convenient and unobtrusive. With this
view, users can use NaturalReader without having to laboriously
copy-and-paste blocks of text; the Floating Bar reads directly!
NaturalReader could be used to help students who struggle with reading. Natural Reader has the potential to help foster students comprehension, fluency, accuracy, ad concentration by reading the text aloud. Teachers may choose to use NaturalReader as a pair-reading activity by having students read aloud with the text reader. The improved quality of the reading voices helps to eliminate text-to-speech distractions, like overly robotic voices.
